Alkaline, Shenseea highlight 2017 Youth View Awards nominations

Dancehall star, Alkaline made good on his assurance that 2016 would be his year and the Youth View Awards have recognized that as the deejay has been nominated for 10 awards at the 2017 edition of the show, including Favourite Dancehall Artiste and Favourite Local Chart — Topping Song of the Year for After All.

Meanwhile, Shenseea, known for hit collaboration with Vybz Kartel, Loodi nabbed four nominations, including Favourite Collaboration for that song as well as Favourite Local Female Artiste. The 20-year-old Romiech Entertainment recording artiste has become one of Jamaica’s biggest young sensations in the last year with singles such as Jiggle Jiggle and Shake Em Off.

Kartel himself continues to dominate the local music scenes as he picked up seven nominations while former protege, Popcaan and collaborator, Spice each have six nods.

The YVAs take place on February 18 at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston. Here are some of the major categories up for nomination.

Favourite Local Chart — Topping Song of the Year: Fever by Vybz Kartel, After All by Alkaline, Indicator by Spice, We Still a Win by Popcaan, Bruck Off Yuh Back by Konshens, and My Dream by Nesbeth.

Favourite Gospel Artiste of the Year – Kevin Downswell, Jermaine Edwards, DJ Nicholas, Marion Hall, Chozenn

Favourite Dancehall Artiste – Vybz Kartel, Spice, Alkaline, Popcaan, Masicka

Favourite Local Female Artiste of the Year – Spice, Ishawna, Tifa, Vanessa Bling, Shenseea

Favourite Breakout Celebrity of the Year – Xklusive, Elaine Thompson, Shenseea, Jahmiel, Dy Dy
