Fast-rising dancehall star, Dexta Daps has found himself in proverbial hot water with the law following a physical confrontation with police officers at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay on Monday.
The deejay, known for recent hits such as 7Eleven and Morning Love has been charged with assaulting a police constable, resisting arrest, obstructing police and using indecent language following the much-publicized incident, which was caught on video by an onlooker at the scene. He is reportedly being held in custody and has not been granted bail. The artist, whose real name is Louis Grandison, is scheduled to appear in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrates’ Court on May 13 to answer to the charges.
The incident happened following the reported issuance of a ticket to the entertainer by police for parking just outside the airport’s departure lounge. It is alleged that during the confrontation, Dexta Daps cursed repeatedly while telling cops, ‘unnu cyaah arrest mi fi nothing.’ and slapping their hands away to prevent them from handcuffing him. He then lost hit balance and fell to the ground, where police held him and handcuffed him.
Subsequent reports claim that an additional charge of malicious destruction to government property could be added on following the incident.
