In 2014 when Dancehall artiste Gothic decided to embark on his musical journey, he assured himself that he would one day become a household name despite any challenges on his quest to greatness.
Now, a decade later, the Montego Bay based artiste can be heard making waves across local and international platforms through the guidance of his management team at Empress Ann Recordz, backed by the influence of notable DJ, Dexta Peppa.
Earlier this year, empressAnn Recordz held a showcase at Club Elevate in a bid to unearth new talent when Gothic and fellow entertainer 300Savage, managed to gain their attention, granting them management deals and the start of a promising musical career.
What Does Signing Mean To You As A Young Artiste?
“While going to St.james High, a friend pushed me to record my first song with T5 Records and the support was so overwhelming that I decided music would be my endgame. Being a young artiste without a team, I had to wait hours at the studio, I didn’t have music business knowledge and I didn’t have promotional material but once I found a team, I now have structure. Being able to have a team that believes in my career is the only thing I was lacking and now that my talent has been recognised I have to prove that i am capable of becoming a staple”
After gaining management, Gothic released his single, ‘Panama’, followed by “Brawling”, both released and complemented by official music videos.
Panama made its way to digital platforms in April and has already amassed thousands of streams notably in other Caribbean islands while ‘Brawlin’ continues to exemplify true Dancehall fashion while making rounds locally.
Within a few short months of being signed, Gothic could be seen alongside his lablemate- 300Savage, delivering enthralling sets at The Reggae Sumfest Street Dance which also featured Laden, Blaize Shell Shell, Mixing Lab, among others and The Montego Bay Jerk Festival. Further speaking with Gothic he shares that he is poised and ready to dominate the Dancehall scene by adding an extra layer of relatability to his craft; “Most youths face the difficulty of fighting not to become a product of the reality we currently live in and by including my real life experiences into my art I hope to steer the generation after me in a path that allows them to realize that they can defy all odds”
