Bevy of first time nominees up for Reggae Grammy

Jah CureAfter being renowned for over a decade as one of Reggae music’s most prolific acts, Jah Cure has secured his first ever Grammy nomination for his latest album, The Cure, marking the most stout recognition of the singer’s accomplished career.

The entertainer, known for hits such as Unconditional Love, Prison Walls, That Cure and Life We Live is one of five nominees for Best Reggae Album, which were announced Monday. He will be going up against fellow first time nominees, legendary reggae singer Barrington Levy (Acousticlevy) and internationally revered band Morgan Heritage (Strictly Roots) for the honour, as well as reggae mainstay, Luciano (Zion Awake), who was last nominated in 2002.

Also nominated for the first time is acclaimed Ghanaian reggae singer, Rocky Dawuni for his project, Branches of the Same Tree.

This marks the first time since 2013 that a Marley has not been nominated for music’s most prestigious honour, with Ziggy Marley, the award’s most decorated winner, having won the last two years.

The winners will be announced on February 15 during the Grammy Awards pre-show in Los Angeles.
