OMI has become Jamaican music’s ‘Cheerleader’ and judging by sales figures from his debut album, Me4U, the cheers from music lovers have been coming loudly and in bunches for the acclaimed singer.
OMI‘s 2015 album has been certified gold in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), selling over 500,000 units.
“ME 4 U is officially certified GOLD in the United States 📀🇺🇸🏆Thank you to everyone who has purchased, streamed and continues to support my music! This is just the beginning. New music coming very soon,” OMI said of the achievement on his Instagram page.
The Felix Jaehn-produced remix of OMI’s mega hit single, Cheerleader, topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for several weeks during the summer of 2015. It has since been certified triple platinum in the United States with over 2.1 million copies sold. Additionally, the single went double platinum in the United Kingdom, topping 800,000 copies sold.
His follow-up single from the album, Hula Hoop, charted in the U.S. and U.K., while also going platinum in Canada and Australia.
