Following rave reviews for his last two studio albums, reggae star, Protoje is confident his newly-released album, Ancient Future will be his most successful given the old school feel that will take music lovers on a journey through different sounds and eras.
The acclaimed entertainer unveiled the album Tuesday at an album launch inside the Jamaican Pegasus hotel in Kingston. Ancient Future, produced by Philip ‘Winta’ James of Overstand Entertainment features 11 tracks, including the chart-topping hit, Who Knows featuring fellow revered reggae crooner, Chronixx. It also sees Protoje collaborate with the likes of Kabaka Pyramid on The Flame and Sudden Flight alongside Jesse Royal and emerging neo-soul/reggae singer, Sevana.
This is Protoje’s third studio set, following Seven Year Itch and Eight Year Affair.
Ancient Future combines a myriad of sounds including ska, lover’s rock and dub, with a touch of 80s dancehall music, when the sub-genre was in its infancy.
Protoje is known for several hits such as Kingston Be Wise, Arguments, Who Dem a Program and Rasta Love alongside Ky-Mani Marley. He is the son of singer, Lorna Bennett, known for her 1972 cover of Dusty Springfield’s Breakfast in Bed.
