Revered reggae singer, Tarrus Riley has achieved his biggest international feat to date as his collaboration with Major Lazer and Ellie Goulding entitled, Powerful has cracked the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The song entered the chart this past week at number 95, making it the first time he’s ever charted on the Hot 100 in his illustrious career. The official video for Powerful has racked up just shy of 22 million views on YouTube since its release in July.
Billboard praised Riley’s work on the track in the summer, stating, “A sweeping anthem that combines old-school R&B flavour with Major Lazer’s signature full-to-bursting, dance floor-ready sound. Tarrus Riley’s contribution keeps Major Lazer in line with Jamaican musical roots, even if his island lilt is muffled in the production.”
Powerful is featured on Major Lazer’s latest album, Peace Is The Mission, which sits at 41 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. That album, released in June also features Jamaican acts such as Chronixx and Jovi Rockwell as well as Trinidadian soca star, Machel Montano.
