Incarcerated dancehall superstar, Vybz Kartel continues to dominate the music scene despite serving a life sentence for a murder conviction and looks to drive home that dominance once more thanks to producer, Linton ‘TJ’ White as his label is set to release the new compilation, King of the Dancehall in June.
King of the Dancehall is a 14-track album co-produced by TJ Records (owned by White) and Kartel’s label, Adidjaheim Records and will be distributed by Zojak Worldwide. TJ Records also produced Kartel’s last album, Viking (Vybz Is King) which was released in March of last year, peaking at number three on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart.
Additionally, TJ Records has produced hits for Kartel such as Which League, Touch Yuh Button, BlackBerry and Without Money, among others.
King of the Dancehall features never before released tracks from Kartel, which White claims was recorded by the deejay prior to his conviction in 2014. It is scheduled for release on June 10, but can be pre-ordered as early as May 6.
Kartel is serving a life sentence after being convicted of killing dancer Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams during an incident in August 2011. He will be eligible for parole after 35 years.
His appeal of the conviction is reportedly expected to be heard sometime this year.
