Imprisoned Dancehall superstar, Vybz Kartel will now call the maximum security Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre home after law enforcement officials transferred him from the Horizon Adult Remand Centre in Spanish Town on Tuesday.
Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, had been serving his life sentence for a 2014 murder convictions at Horizon. However, the deejay was taken to the downtown Kingston-based Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre after a suspected breach at the premises.
A report from RJR producer/reporter, Giovanni Dennis cited sources who intimated that police seized recording devices from the deejay. Local police have yet to confirm that this was the reason for Kartel’s transfer.
Despite his incarceration, Kartel has managed to dominate local airwaves with a slew of new material that producers and collaborators insist was recorded before he was jailed. However, the content and quality in some of his songs has led many to wonder if the ‘Worl Boss’ has been recording songs behind bars.
Serving time for the 2011 killing of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, Kartel, his Portmore Empire protégé, Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones and Andre St. John have since filed yet-to-be heard appeals against their convictions
