Ziggy Marley wins another Reggae Grammy

Fly RastaDecorated reggae superstar, Ziggy Marley has won the Grammy award for Best Reggae Album for the second year in a row at the 57th annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

After taking home the honour in 2014 with his Live in Concert compilation, the former front man of the acclaimed reggae band, Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers repeated this feat with his most recent studio album, Fly Rasta. The 10-track set, released last April was released on the Tuff Gong International label, owned by the Marley brothers. It features appearances by U-Roy and Marley’s sister, Cedella Marley, a former member of the Melody Makers.

 Fly Rasta beat the likes of Full Frequency by Sean Paul, Out of Many, One Music by Shaggy, Back on the Controls by Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, The Reggae Power by Sly and Robbie and Spicy Chocolate and Amid the Noise and the Haste by American reggae band, SOJA.

 This is Ziggy Marley’s third Grammy for Best Reggae Album as a solo artist, added to his three as a member of the Melody Makers, making him the most decorated winner of the award. He is the only reggae musician to win Grammys in back-to-back years on two different occasions.
