Rising pop/R&B artist Chrissy Spratt has shared “In Too Deep,” out today on all DSPs, the moody, confessional lead single from her forthcoming debut EP.

Listen HERE.

Produced by Grammy-winning producer Daramola, “In Too Deep” is the first release on the newly-formed, Canada-based music company Hi-Way 89 Entertainment headed up by Nigerian-Canadian music execs, Ikenna Nwagboso and Camillo Doregos.

Hailing from Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, Chrissy Spratt’s sound mixes chilled-out pop R&B sensibilities with the throbbing rhythms of amapiano and other contemporary dance sounds. First coming to fame on Instagram and TikTok, she built her audience by flawlessly performing on-demand covers by request from fans. These dynamic covers, spanning pop, R&B, afrobeats, and Latin music, among other genres, have been crucial in growing her diverse audience, which now numbers over 5.5 million followers across social platforms (including 4.1 million on TikTok).

Her covers of afrobeats songs like Kizz Daniel’s “Cough (Odo)” and Ckay’s “Love Nwantiti” were particularly resonant with audiences in West Africa, with artists like Davido, Tiwa Savage, Stonebwoy and Kizz Daniel among those sharing her videos and expressing support.

Now focused on original music, Chrissy Spratt tapped Daramola—the Miami-based multi-genre hitmaker behind current Billboard Latin Pop airplay #1 single “Imaginate” by Danny Ocean and Kapo—to build the atmospheric, confessional sound of “In Too Deep.”

“We instantly connected,” Chrissy says of Daramola, a recent Grammy winner for his contributions to 2024’s Bob Marley: One Love soundtrack. “We spent a lot of time getting to know each other. He wanted to know my story, who I am, and my perspective on life. When it came time to finally write, it felt really authentic. We spent four days in the studio together, and each day we completed a new song. Day four was when ‘In Too Deep’ was created.”

The track emerged from a deep conversation between singer and producer about love and relationships. “I think a common challenge in life is always wanting more. We live in a world full of temptation and comparison, especially with social media. I wanted to tap into the perspective of someone who wandered off too far from their relationship and what kind of emotions they would experience.”

An intimate, starkly personal music video directed by actor/singer Pierre Marais with choreography by Justice Moore (Tyla, Doja Cat, Hamilton on Broadway) is set to follow the track release.

In addition to Daramola, Spratt’s as-yet-untitled forthcoming EP, planned for release this summer, features contributions from producers including Canada-based afrobeats star Nonso Amadi; Tejiri, the Grammy-winning producer behind Tems’ “Higher”; and Canadian artist/producers and songwriting team Coleman Hell and La+ch.

For her debut project, Chrissy has teamed with Hi-Way 89 Entertainment, a Toronto- and Calgary-based artist development and label services company founded by Canadian-Nigerian music executives Ikenna Nwagboso and Camillo Doregos. The company, which has secured distribution through Vydia/gamma., aims to foster connections between the African and Canadian music industries; Chrissy Spratt has been named as the label’s lead signing.

Nwagboso previously co-founded the groundbreaking African music company emPawa Africa in 2018, serving as its global head of label services and partnerships until stepping down in January of this year. Doregos, previously a manager for Mr Eazi, is the founder of DC Talent Agency, the management company behind Nigerian music stars Pheelz, Kah-Lo and South African amapiano duo TxC, as well as a booking agency which has secured appearances and brand deals for talent including Rema, Fireboy DML, Wizkid, Omah Lay, Davido and Uncle Waffles.

Having previously opened on tour for Snoop Dogg, Chrissy Spratt is set to appear as the opening act for Rotimi at select dates on the actor/singer’s forthcoming “In My Heart, In My Veins” tour.
