Dexta Daps freed of multiple charges

Dexta DapsDancehall star, Dexta Daps has been freed of four charges in relation to a scuffle with police at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay this past April.

The entertainer, whose real name is Louis Grandison, had faced charges of obstructing the police; use of indecent language; resisting arrest; and assault occasioning bodily harm in relation to the incident.

It was alleged that on April 27, a member of the singjay’s entourage parked a car in a no parking area of the airport. After police ticketed the entourage member, Essan Richards, for illegal parking, Dexta Daps angrily intervened and insulted members of the police who tried to arrest him, leading to a fight between them. A policeman was allegedly assaulted in the scuffle, which was caught on video, leading Dexta Daps to be hurled to the ground by multiple officers.

On Wednesday, Daps and Richards appeared at the Montego Bay Resident Magistrates Court and were freed after Resident Magistrate Ann-Marie Barnes was informed that the policeman allegedly assaulted in the fight no longer wished to pursue charges. leading the matter to be put in mediation.

Video of the incident in question received a lot of public backlash against the police for their handling of the matter and accused them of using excessive force on the entertainer.
