Fantasia BarrinoGrammy-winning American singer, Fantasia Barrino is set to perform a free concert in Jamaica this Friday as she headlines the Blues on the Green concert which will be held at Emancipation Park in New Kingston.

Blues on the Green is an annual concert staged by the United States Embassy, with this year marking the 24th edition. It is a cultural event celebrating African-American history month and the contributions of African-Americans to society, with the theme this year mirroring Jamaica’s motto, Out of Many One.

The concert was initially scheduled to take place on February 26, a day after Jamaica’s general elections, but was postponed due to logistical issues.

In 2011, she won the Grammy award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her single, Bittersweet.

Other headliners set for Blues on the Green include Christopher Martin, Raging Fyah and Romain Virgo.

The show kicks off on Friday at 7 p.m. and is being held in partnership with Ministry of Culture, Gender Affairs, Entertainment and sport. The U.S. Embassy also asks those who will be attending to bring items for donation to the Women’s Resource and Outreach Centre.
