Flippa Moggela set to stand trial in drug case

Flippa MafiaThe fate of flamboyant dancehall artist, Flippa Moggela could be decided as early as next week as his trial on cocaine charges is set to begin in New Jersey.

The entertainer, whose real name is Andrew Davis, faces three charges in relation a drug ring uncovered by U.S. federal authorities. Those charges include conspiracy to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and money-laundering. Flippa, who has been in custody since September 2013, has plead not guilty to all charges. Pre-trial hearings are reportedly being conducted this week, which could lead the trial to kick off next week

His case, however, was not helped by the fact his brothers, Kemar Davis, 24 and Roger Davis, 37, took plea deals in relation to the case, which alleges that they, Flippa and three other persons participated in a drug operation, using mail delivery services to ship several kilograms of cocaine from California to New Jersey. Over 26 kilos of cocaine and US$500,000 were seized by authorities after uncovering the ring.

Kemar Davis plead guilty to to leading a narcotics trafficking network and faces 20 years in federal prison with 12 years of parole ineligibility while Roger Davis plead guilty to first-degree possession with intent to distribute and faces a 12-year sentence with three years of parole ineligibility.

Flippa Moggela, formerly known as Flippa Mafia, is known for singles such as Unfinished House and Hear Mi Hear.
