Veteran Jamaican musician, George Nooks, faces cocaine possession charges after an incident Friday night in St. Andrew.
According to multiple reports, the singer most famous for his classic gospel hit, God Is Standing By, was arrested in Duhaney Park after police discovered him acting suspiciously and found a plastic bag containing two ounces of cocaine in his vehicle after accosting him.
He was taken into custody and later offered JMD$80,000 bail. Nooks is expected to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on May 17.
Nooks, 59, is also known for his rendition of Dennis Brown’s Money In My Pocket among countless other covers, as well as Forty Legs Dread and How Great Thou Art.
His most recent album, Ride Out Yuh Storm, peaked at number four on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart in 2016. He has been active in the industry for over four decades and owns his own label, Total Records
