Reggae/dancehall star, Gyptian, has severed his long-time affiliation with VP Records to the surprise of some, including VP themselves.
The award-winning singer announced on Monday, through his management team in an interview IRIE FM, that he was moving on from VP after his contract with the label was not renewed.
“Gyptian is no longer with VP Records. Gyptian says to me he has fulfilled his obligation to VP and he is now in studio doing what he loves, making music to give to his fans.” manager, Natasha Thomas, told IRIE FM.
However, VP disputed the artiste’s claims, insisting in a statement that he is still with the label. “Reports that Gyptian is no longer with VP Records are false.” the release states in part, adding, “Gyptian remains an exclusive VP recording artist.”
Gyptian recently formed his own label, Ryte Dyrekshan, and is said to be releasing new material via his label.
However, VP also stated that they are awaiting the release of a new album from the singer.
