Kingston-born beauty, Kaci Fennell will represent Jamaica at this year’s staging of the Miss Universe pageant after emerging with the Miss Universe Jamaica crown Saturday night in her native parish.
The 21-year old, donning a Miss Sand Castles sash, stood out among a field of 19 ladies at the coronation ceremony, which was held on the campus of Jamaica College under the tagline Enhancing Lives, Through Beauty. Roshelle McKinley finished second whileKimar Muir rounded out the top three.
The contestants went through a myriad of segments, includingPolka Dot Swimwear (swimwear competition) and Glamour and Fantasy (evening gown competition) in which the ladies donned outfits crafted by Miss Universe Jamaica directors, Mark McDermoth and Karl Williams. After the original cast of 19 was cut down to 10, the ladies went through a round of personality interviews before the Top 10 was cut to five, before the all-important question and answer round.
Fennell copped a pair of sectional prizes on the night, including Best Evening Gown and Most Aware Contestant, while Muir won Best Style, Shantana Folkes won Miss Photogenic and Princess Fraser for Altruism. In addition to the crown, Fennell won a stealthy prize package, including a new car from the title sponsor and a scholarship from Caucasus University, based in the eastern European country of Georgia.
The show was emceed by former Miss Jamaica World and current host of Digicel Rising Stars, Terri-Karrelle Reidand Television Jamaica (TVJ) presenter, Adrian Brown, with entertainment provided by veteran singer, Gem Myerswho performed and serenaded the winner.
Fennell now awaits the announcement of the official date and venue for the Miss Universe 2014 pageant, which have yet to be confirmed.
