Dancehall star, Kalado is set to stand trial on September 14 after being arrested and charged with assault following an incident with a woman in June.

It is alleged that Kalado lunged from his vehicle and attacked a woman as she was walking along the roadway.

The 31-year-old entertainer pled not guilty to a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm when he appeared in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court in Half-Way-Tree on Wednesday.

The complainant told the court that they had no relationship and that Kalado had threatened her during a prior encounter.

Kalado and the alleged victim were due to attend court on June 13 after the matter was referred to mediation as they sought to resolve the issue. However, Kalado failed to turn up.

Claiming he missed the court date due to an overseas commitment, the presiding judge in the case, Parish Judge Simone Wolfe-Reece was none too pleased, telling the entertainer, “I don’t think you understand. You are charged with a criminal offence that will take you to prison. We are not working on your schedule, we are not trying to fit in your life.”

She added, “I can take away your passport and put you in custody. Think twice before you give me an answer that doesn’t make sense.”

Kalado’s attorney, Patrick Peterkin requested a second attempt at mediation on his client’s behalf, but the judge refused.

The artiste is known for songs such as Hot Ride, You Make Me Feel and Personally.
