Ronald Oates, the mastermind behind the controversial Jamaican Girls Exposed website, has been sentenced to a year in prison after entering a guilty plea.
The sentence was handed down earlier this week at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court in Kingston.
Oates was the owner the now defunct website, Jamaican Girls Exposed, which took the internet by storm in 2012 after hundreds of nude photographs of Jamaican women appeared on the website, including one of local singer, Denyque as well as a pornographic video involving former Miss Jamaica World runner-up, Kayla Mendes.
It was alleged that Oates would post these photos without consent and that he extorted over JA$100,000 in exchange for the removal of said photographs. Shortly following the leak of Denyque’s picture, a police probe was launched and Oates was arrested soon thereafter.
