Veteran Jamaican comedians, Ian ‘Ity’ Ellis and Alton ‘Fancy Cat’ Hardware are set to unveil season seven of their popular TV series, the Ity and Fancy Cat Show later this summer.
The first episode of the new season of the comedy series will air on TVJ in August, a later start than in previous years as a result of local coverage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. However, material from the highly regarded tournament will be used for the show, as well as other international and local stories that caught the attention of the Jamaican public in recent months.
“It’s going to be good,” Ellis told the Jamaica STAR in an interview published Thursday. “We were jolted by the World Cup, we wanted to make the World Cup pass. But we got some exciting and useful material.”
In addition to the usual hidden camera and road segments the show is known for, the upcoming season of the Ity and Fancy Cat Show will feature more social interaction as viewers will be able to submit their own fun videos which would air on the show weekly.
“There is so much footage in people’s phones that are funny,” Ellis said. “I think that is an element that would be attractive to people. You know how Jamaicans are, we love to see ourselves on camera.”
The hope now for the show, according to Ellis, is that they hope to use it as an avenue to expand their brand and create ventures based off it. For now though, he promises lots of laughter an enjoyment from the upcoming season
“Doing it for seven seasons, you want to put it on a certain level. We want to embark on new projects to segue from the Ity and Fancy Cat show,” he said. “We want them to expect laughter and edginess. There is so much in the news so prepare yourself ’cause we are going there.”
